Overview

About the brand.

AL WASAT (Arabic: الوسط, meaning "the middle" or "the balanced") is a Tunisian producer of extra virgin olive oil, operating from the Sfax region of southern Tunisia since 1960. The brand takes its name from the concept of balance — a reference to the equilibrium between traditional cultivation methods and documented quality standards.

The olive groves draw primarily from the Chemlali and Chetoui varieties, both indigenous to the Sfax region and recognised for producing oils with high polyphenol content and characteristic peppery finish. Harvest takes place annually, with extraction completed within 24 hours of picking at temperatures not exceeding 27°C — a threshold that preserves volatile aromatic compounds and limits oxidation.

Each batch is lab-tested independently for acidity, peroxides, and polyphenol concentration. Results are documented per harvest and available to trade buyers on request. No cross-harvest blending takes place; each production run is stored and bottled separately.

AL WASAT holds IOC (International Olive Council) certification for its Classic range and EU Organic certification for its Organic range. The brand distributes to the United Kingdom, European Union member states, and MENA markets. UK customers order directly through al-wasat.co.uk.
